SARAH MITCHELL
THE FRIEND COLLECTION
TOM AND TANNER
These two bois
ask the weirdest questions
like, "do you like bois or girls?"
or, "how small does one have to be to get barrelled by this mini wave?"
A trained thought
never lasts too long
and that's a good thing
because laughter
explodes like flaming fireworks under sand
and it spreads and sticks to you
and glitters
distracting you from the microplastic annoyances of life.
They'd give you the slippers off their feet
just to purchase some smiles
and the creases of their eyes are cracking jokes consistently.
If you see them,
ask 'em to sing in Chinese
or to tell you current events
or to play you some dancy music
ask 'em to catch barrels
with dolphins in the sea
ask 'em to spike
to swim
to smile
and they'll never let you down.

BELLA
brushtrokes
of the creative mind
are always on your lips
when any are timid
to share their passions

little tinkers
little hobbies
and a genuine smile
hums nearby

You're there to greet each day
proposing laughs
in probable solutions
to lure people from their depression forts
where gravity can pull their stresses to the floor
and cause them to crumble like magazine covers

There's a magnetism
similar to gravity that you have
a sense of beauty
and a pleasant look you draw from people
when you hold them
Precious
like soft fabrics
to admire
and to lift them to the sun
where they should be

CAMERON
Somebody said
"make everybody feel like a somebody"
so you did
you filled that empty spot in my heart
the one that isn't for romance
but for the purest friendship
I lost someone that held those tendons
who decided to shift to
the place that hearts go
when they want to become
ice cubes broken
stretched out of their molds
But there you were
to walk steps I thought would forever be walked alone
to talk about topics that
most cannot understand
to be sarcastic
to laugh at a Subway sandwich high
with starfish gurgles
and to be part
of one of the purest friendships I've had.

BRAD
BradÂ
went to Long's Drugs
but he doesn't really do drugs like most thugs
he just gives really good hugs.
KRISHELLE
You're a root
The kind that doesn't see the sun
so deep because you're holding to the core
of the earth beneath

You're a rock in the ocean
when water spills over foam
you house little creatures
and they hold onto you because you'll stay
you're safe, you will not roam

You're the vibrating string on a guitar
when your waves hit the ear
people listen with all their attention
you have humor of incredible invention

and your soul is millions of years old
like the geology of this island
I feel like you've always been there
beautiful, strong, and ready to understand

or lend a hand
or hold my hand
even with an overactive sweat gland
